1. Corrosion resistance of tantalum in chemical media
Tantalum is a pure metal with a high degree of chemical stability. Strong corrosion resistance in many corrosive media such as inorganic acids, aqua regia, organic acids, etc.
In addition to hydrofluoric acid, fuming sulfur trioxide and sulfuric acid and phosphoric acid at high temperatures, tantalum is stable to all other acids. The stability of tantalum in acidic and neutral media below 200 °C is even higher than that of gold and platinum. So it is considered to be one of the most ideal chemical equipment structural materials.Chemical equipment that made of tantalum: heat exchangers, concentrators, warmers, mixers, pharmaceutical containers, etc.
2. Corrosion resistance of tantalum in liquid metals
Tantalum metal with good corrosion resistance with some liquid metals,so it can be used to make structural material of atomic energy power equipment using liquid metal as heat transfer medium.
3. Chemical reaction of tantalum in various gases
Under normal pressure, when it is more than 300 °C, tantalum reacts with oxygen and air, and the surface of the tantalum is oxidized and becomes brittle. When >340℃,tantalum absorbs hydrogen , becomes brittle, When >700℃,tantalum absorbs nitrogen, becomes brittle, it can also dissolve ammonia, and becomes brittle.When>800~1000℃,in carbohydrate, carburization occurs.
