This kind of alloy is formed by adding a certain amount of tungsten and hafnium to tantalum. It is developed on the basis of tantalum-tungsten alloy. Hafnium and interstitial oxygen and carbon form dispersed HfO 2 and HfC particles, which improve the creep strength and corrosion resistance of the alloy to alkali metals. Ta-W-Hf alloy has good plastic workability and weldability, excellent long-term thermal stability and high creep strength in the temperature range of 93-1426C. From 1960 to 1963, Ta-8W-2Hf and Ta10W-2.5Hf-0.01c alloys were successfully developed in the United States. Ta-W-Hf alloys are divided into solution strengthening alloys and dispersion strengthening alloys.
